I relented and exported my presentation to PowerPoint. It turns out the projector does have a DVI! But my dongle didn’t work. The host did a good job of calming me down and he convinced me to work it out in the seminar room. No one in the relatively small department uses Macs so there’s no hope of borrowing a VGA dongle from someone. I brought the wrong dongle, DVI instead of VGA. My heart stopped, and then began to race. We went to lunch.įast forward to me getting my stuff together to go to the seminar room. I flippantly reassured him that, as long as there’s a VGA cable, it’ll be fine.

My host saw my Mac and said, “um, er is there any way I can convince you to put your presentation on a stick and present from our computer?” I said, “Does the computer have Keynote?” No, of course it doesn’t.

See Update or revert a paragraph style in Keynote on Mac to learn how to deal with style overrides.I gave a colloquium at a Physics Department yesterday. If a style with the same name already exists, that style gets a style override. If the presentation where you paste the style doesn’t have the style, it’s added to the character or paragraph style menu for that presentation. You can paste text styles from one Keynote presentation to another.

If you select one or more partial paragraphs (for example, one or more words in a paragraph), or a full paragraph and part of another, only character styles and not paragraph styles are applied to the selected text. If you place the insertion point in a paragraph or select full paragraphs, text boxes, or shapes, existing paragraph or character styles are replaced with what you paste. Select other text where you want to apply the style, or place the insertion point in text, then choose Format > Paste Style. That includes any paragraph style, character style, and style overrides applied to that text.Ĭhoose Format > Copy Style (from the Format menu at the top of your screen). Everything that you would see if you were to begin typing at the insertion point is copied. Place the insertion point in the text with the style you want to copy. Select carefully-if the first character in your selection is a white space, the text where you paste the style is replaced by white space. The style of the first character in the text selection is what’s copied. Select the text with the style you want to copy. You can copy just the style of selected text and apply that style to other text.
